He rushed out of the ward, exhausted from attending to patients since morning. As he got into the car, he reached into his backpack and pulled out about fifteen different medications. The person treating others isn’t well himself—he’s managing serious health problems. That’s life’s irony. From there I went to see a pastor friend. He had just finished preaching. As he stepped out, he got a call: his son had been arrested again for drugs. The boy is a notorious cultist and a constant problem. This year alone, his father has bailed him out about fifty times. The man preaching salvation and guiding others can’t fix his own home. It made me think about that saying: before accepting clothes from someone, look at what he’s wearing. Many people who help others desperately need help themselves. Many who sacrifice for others are running on empty. Life is rough, and no one is spared.
