How to write a Résumé for Nigerian employers


Are you tired of sending resumes and not even getting a “we regret to inform you” email? E no easy, abi? 🤦🏾‍♂️ No wahala, I understand how frustrating it can be, but don’t worry, today I’m going to share tips to create a winning resume that Nigerian employers will love!

No long talk, let’s get into it

1. Personal Info: Keep It Simple
Don’t clutter this section with unnecessary details. Just include your name, phone number, email, and location. Don’t add all those unnecessary things like religion or marital status or local government — they don’t matter to the employer!

2. Strong Career Summary: Sell Yourself
This part is your chance to make a great first impression and blow your own trumpet. In just 3-4 sentences, give a summary of your skills and explain what you bring to the table. Make it sharp, make e sweet! Something like:
"Experienced Resume Writer with over 5 years of expertise in writing professional resumes that land jobs. I help businesses stand out and professionals shine."

3. Achievements, Not Responsibilities - No Form, Na Your Work!
Instead of listing boring job duties, focus on results. No yarn like “I was responsible for…” Instead, talk about the real impact you made. For example:
- "Helped over 100 job seekers land interviews by creating customized, impactful resumes."

Employers want to see what you accomplished, Na results employers dey find!

4. Education & Certifications: Be Clear
Give details of your educational background and professional certifications, but don’t overdo it. Keep it simple and clear, and include any relevant certifications that will give you an edge in the job market.

5. Tailor Your Resume for Each Job: It is not a “One Size Fits All”
No be every resume fit every job. If you are applying for graphics design, focus on your design skills. If na admin work, show your organizational skills Make sure you customize your resume to suit each job you apply for. Highlight skills and experiences that match the specific role you want.

6. Format: Keep It Clean and Professional
Make your resume easy to read. Keep your resume clean, sharp, and not more than 2-3 pages. Use professional fonts like Arial, Calibri, or Times New Roman — no Comic Sans abeg! Make sure spacing and bullet points dey on point too.
