Former President Babangida Dismisses Dele Giwa Assassination Claims

Former Nigerian military president, General Ibrahim Babangida, has denied any involvement in the assassination of journalist Dele Giwa, who was killed by a parcel bomb at his Lagos home on October 19, 1986 .

Giwa, a vocal critic of Babangida's government, had been accused of importing arms to stage a socialist revolution just two days before his death. However, a security chief later reassured him that the accusation was a misunderstanding.

Despite this, Giwa was killed, and Babangida has faced long-standing allegations of involvement. In his autobiography, "A Journey in Service," Babangida dismisses these claims, stating that the media's "hysteria" hindered the investigation and created an "adversarial attitude" towards the government 

Babangida expressed hope that the truth behind Giwa's death would eventually be uncovered, noting that the case remains unsolved .

The former president made these comments at the launch of his autobiography and presidential library, attended by prominent figures including President Bola Tinubu and former heads of state
