The Federal Government has officially adopted Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED) in Ijagun, Ogun State, as a Federal University of Education.

The approval, granted by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, follows a request by the Ogun State Government and aims to strengthen teacher education across the country. With this move, TASUED becomes the first federally owned tertiary institution in Ogun East and joins the ranks of specialized federal universities of education nationwide.

Governor Dapo Abiodun hailed the decision as a major win for Ogun State, emphasizing that the institution already has the infrastructure and academic strength to transition smoothly with minimal federal input.

Student bodies, including NANS, have celebrated the announcement, calling it a “victory for students and education,” especially after past struggles to keep TASUED from being shut down.

TASUED was originally established in 2005 and is Nigeria’s first university of education. Its new status is expected to enhance funding, boost research opportunities, and improve learning conditions for students and staff.
