Students Applaud Ogun Governor for Plans to Revamp Technical Colleges

Students in Ogun State have commended Governor Dapo Abiodun for the state government's initiative to revamp technical colleges.

In a joint statement issued on Monday in Abeokuta, the Chairman of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Gabriel Francis, and the National President of the National Association of Ogun State Students (NAOSS), Kehinde Thomas, described the move as a commendable step toward revitalizing the state-owned technical colleges.

The Ogun State Commissioner for Education, Prof.

Abayomi Arigbabu, recently announced that rehabilitation work had commenced on the colleges. The student leaders expressed confidence that the initiative would boost enrollment, enhance learning experiences, and enable students to compete favorably with their counterparts nationwide.

According to them, the rehabilitation of the structures will significantly improve students' learning skills, enhance practical education, foster creativity, and create a more conducive academic environment.

"The ongoing rehabilitation work and upgrading of facilities will not only enhance practical learning but also attract more students to technical education, increasing their employability and preparing them for entrepreneurial opportunities in various industries," the statement read.

The students emphasized that the intervention is both timely and necessary, given the increasing demand for skilled manpower. They believe the initiative will strengthen the link between education and industry, equipping students with the relevant skills needed for today's evolving economy.

While commending Governor Abiodun, they also urged the state government to improve security around tertiary institutions to ensure a safe learning environment.
